Superman: Easy, miss. I've got you.
Lois Lane: You've got me? Who's got you?
From Superman: The Motion Picture (1976)
Personal Insights: This picture is actually made up of three cels. The first is Superman carrying Lois Lane. The second is of the falling ceiling, and the third is of Bizzaro holding the ceiling. The background is a laser copy of the original. One of the reasons I bought this cel, is because the background is off center, and is a great shot of Superman carrying Lois Lane. The Bizzaro and special effects cels are an added bonus.
General Information: An Original Production Cel from "Superman: The Animated Series". Classic animation is the art of bringing to life single drawings to create the illusion of character drama and movement. The original animator's drawing is transferred onto an acetate cel (either by hand - inking or photocopying). The cel is then flipped over and individually hand-painted on the reverse side. Thousands of animation cels are required to create just a few minutes of film. Each work of art in unique.
Series Information: As a follow-up to their hugely successful Batman: The Animated Series, the creative team of Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett have transformed the mightiest super-hero of all time into another citizen of their own art-deco D.C. Comics universe. Premiering on television in September, 1996, Superman exists in a world of the future a glittering, gleaming sci-fi Metropolis. But beneath the shiny surface of this seeming utopia is it's sinister, controlling figurehead, Lex Luthor, whose domination is threatened by the sudden appearance of the morally just and apparently invincible Kryptonian, Superman.
Episode Information: From the episode "Identity Crisis".Superman rescues a small boy who climbed onto an electrical tower on a dare and cannot get down. The boy is thrilled to be rescued by him and indulges in a bit of hero worship. Superman flies off, and he sees a police chase and goes to help. He stops the robbers' car and turns them over to the police.
Then Lois Lane's car comes careening around the corner in pursuit of the story. She stops suddenly so she does not hit the stopped police cars, and Clark Kent is thrown out of the car and falls off the cliff. Superman saves him and takes him back up to where Lois is, then Superman asks Lois for a date.
He flies off, and Clark follows to see what is going on. He finds the other Superman, who attacks him and claims to be the real Superman, and Clark is forced to defend himself. During the fight, the other Superman's flesh starts to fall off. The false Superman becomes scared and confused, and he takes Kal-El down before flying off to a laboratory in the mountains.
When he arrives, he is completely white and twisted. He enters the lab and finds Lex Luthor waiting to check on the progress of his new creation. The false Superman does not understand what is happening, but one of Luthor's scientists tells Lex that the alien DNA they used is beginning to break down.
Mercy insults the false Superman, calling him "Bizarro". Bizarro flies off to prove he is really Superman but only causes trouble which the real Superman has to fix. Then Bizarro goes to the Daily Planet for his date with Lois. Superman also shows up, and Bizarro pushes him into the globe atop the building, knocking it loose. While Superman is stopping the globe from falling, Bizarro frightens Lois, who falls from the building roof. Bizarro saves her and flies off with her.
They go to a restaurant where Bizarro tells Lois about the lab. They go there, and Lois sees the clones of Superman Luthor is creating for his private army. He tells her the clones came from the blood Superman spilled after battling the mechanical dinosaur when he was weak from kryptonite (see A LITTLE PIECE OF HOME).
Luthor tries to destroy Bizarro, but Bizarro trashes the lab after the lab is set to self-destruct. Superman arrives and battles Bizarro as Luthor, Mercy, and the scientist escape. Lois also runs for the door, but she is buried beneath a chunk of ceiling before she can escape. She calls for Superman, who goes to her air, and Bizarro realizes he is not Superman. Bizarro holds up the ceiling so Superman and Lois can escape, then he is possibly destroyed when the lab goes up. Superman and Lois wonder if they'll see him again.
