From Superman: The Motion Picture (1976)
Personal Insights: This is a very nice piece, not one of my best, but it was the first Superman cel I bought from the animated series. I bought it because it looks like the maquette, and they look good side by side.
General Information: An Original Production Cel from "Superman: The Animated Series". Classic animation is the art of bringing to life single drawings to create the illusion of character drama and movement. The original animator's drawing is transferred onto an acetate cel (either by hand - inking or photocopying). The cel is then flipped over and individually hand-painted on the reverse side. Thousands of animation cels are required to create just a few minutes of film. Each work of art in unique.
Series Information: As a follow-up to their hugely successful Batman: The Animated Series, the creative team of Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett have transformed the mightiest super-hero of all time into another citizen of their own art-deco D.C. Comics universe. Premiering on television in September, 1996, Superman exists in a world of the future a glittering, gleaming sci-fi Metropolis. But beneath the shiny surface of this seeming utopia is it's sinister, controlling figurehead, Lex Luthor, whose domination is threatened by the sudden appearance of the morally just and apparently invincible Kryptonian, Superman.
Episode Information: From the episode: A Little Piece of Home". Lex Luthor's discovers Superman's Achilles' heel: A deadly vulnerability to Kryptonite. Armed with this lethal information, the vile fiend sets out to destroy the Man of Steel once and for all.
